KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team rolled against The University of Olivet Wednesday at MacKenzie Field in both teams' MIAA opener, winning 8-0.
Ruby Hogan notched a hat trick in the victory, scoring Kalamazoo's second, third and sixth goals of the match.
The Hornets started the scoring early with a goal by Kearsten Schultz in the eighth minute off an assist from Anna Courtney.
Hogan got hot from there, scoring on a header on a corner kick from Maeve Nolan in the 12th minute. Hogan added another goal in the 16th minute after winning a loose ball in the penalty box.
Just 18 seconds later, Callie Abair delivered a ball to the box that the Olivet goalkeeper blocked right to the foot of Savannah Norman, who buried it for a 4-0 advantage.
Kalamazoo kept firing in the second half, with Ella Hanley scoring on a penalty kick in the 55th minute to make it 5-0. Hogan then completed her hat trick after Abair found her with a pass from the end line.
Nolan scored on a penalty kick in the 79th minute, and Maggie Westra scored the final goal of the match in the 83rd minute after taking a pass from Sawyer Lenon.
For the Hornets, both Hanley and Lenon earned the first points in their collegiate careers in the win. Jess Forbis collected her fourth consecutive shutout and fifth total of the season as both shots by the Comets were off target.
Kalamazoo (6-2-1, 1-0 MIAA) hits the road for its next MIAA matchup at Trine University (4-3-3, 1-0) Saturday at 7 p.m. in Angola, Ind.
