ANGOLA, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team responded to an early deficit, charging to a 3-2 win at Trine University on Saturday.
Trine scored first in the fourth minute.
In the 17th minute, Callie Abair took a feed from Ruby Hogan, darted past the Thunder defense, and ripped a shot over the goalkeeper's head for a goal.
The Hornets took the lead in the 22nd minute as Lexi Gross sent a long pass from behind midfield to Hogan breaking away from the back line of Trine's defense, and her shot bounced past the diving keeper for the score. Kalamazoo took the 2-1 lead into halftime with a 9-7 advantage in shots, 4-3 on goal.
Hogan broke to the end line with the ball in the 49th minute and delivered a feed to Abair for a cross-body kick into the left corner of the goal to make it 3-1.
Trine scored in the 81st minute to cut into the deficit.
Jess Forbis made several big stops in the closing stretch to hold the lead, finishing with six saves.
Kalamazoo (7-2-1, 2-0 MIAA) stays on the road for a trip to Alma College (8-2-1, 0-2) on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Alma, Mich.
