KALAMAZOO, Mich.– The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team upset #21 North Central University in shutout fashion Saturday at MacKenzie Field, 2-0.
The Hornets struck early off a free kick opportunity, with Elijah Vue setting up a brilliant header by Ryan Clark in the fourth minute. Kalamazoo held the 1-0 lead for much of the contest, with a 10-1 advantage in total shots and 5-1 margin in shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes.
With time winding down, Vue took advantage of a failed clearance attempt from the North Central goalkeeper, chipping the ball in from the left sideline to add an insurance goal, the sophomore's first collegiate score, in the 89th minute.
Lane Lander made seven saves in goal for the Hornets for his first win and shutout in his collegiate career. Kalamazoo finished with a 15-9 advantage in shots, 8-7 on goal, and four corner kicks to two for the Cardinals.
Kalamazoo men's soccer hosts Loras College Sunday at noon at MacKenzie Field for Senior Day. The Hornets will honor each of the team's seven seniors in a pregame ceremony.
