RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team won, 4-0, at Concordia University Chicago Sunday.
The Hornets scored first in the 41st minute. Off of a corner kick, Ruby Hogan took a shot that was blocked by a Concordia defender, but Zelda Molitor was able to get the rebound and boot it home. Kalamazoo carried the 1-0 lead into halftime with a 15-1 advantage in shots, 9-1 in shots on goal.
Hogan added to the Hornets' lead in the 64th minute. Callie Abair sent a centering pass from near the goal line on the right side that Anna Courtney deflected to Hogan, who sent a shot over the Cougar goalkeeper's outstretched arms and into the upper-right corner for the goal.
In the 79th minute, after a Kalamazoo free kick, Lexi Gross won the battle for a loose ball in the goal box and got just enough on her shot to beat the defense and score the first goal of her collegiate career. Sydney DeKuiper assisted on the goal.
The Hornets kept coming, as DeKuiper also picked up her first collegiate goal on a header into the top of the net off an assist from Maggie Westra in the 83rd minute.
Kalamazoo outshot Concordia, 24-4 overall and 15-2 in shots on goal, and had a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Jess Forbis made two saves for her third shutout of the season and second in a row.
Kalamazoo (4-2-1) squares off against NAIA opponent Goshen College (3-3-1) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at MacKenzie Field for the Hornets' final game before MIAA play begins.
