KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost a 27-7 decision to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon at Angell Field.
The Hornets are now 0-2 on the young season.
Head coach
John Krajacic's team trailed 7-0 just 2:59 into the contest. Kalamazoo forced a three-and-out with 2:05 to play in the opening stanza.
Brayden Ledin found
Kyler Maiorana for an 11-yard strike, moving the ball to the 50-yard line. Facing third-and-seven,
Aaron Zekman hauled in a 12-yard pass from Ledin for a first down.
The Hornets continued the solid drive to open the second quarter when
James Kulekowskis was able to snag a 17-yard pass. After a rush by Maiorana and a catch by
Carsen Moat, Ledin scampered two yards into the end-zone. The
Cameron Lewis extra point made it 7-7.
Rose-Hulman managed to take the lead at the 8:50 mark of the quarter and the contest stayed that way heading into the third frame.
The visitors added a touchdown in the third quarter and another in the fourth quarter.
Down 27-7, Kalamazoo continued to battle.
Evan Abberger hit
Aravind Krishnan with a seven-yard pass.
Luke Alvarado hauled in a four-yard pass for a first down. Facing a second-and-10, Krishnan caught a 17-yard strike from Abberger with just over a minute to play. However, the clock ended with the ball on the 48-yard line.
Kalamazoo had multiple solid drives in the second half, but the Hornets were unable to find the end-zone.
For the game, Ledin completed 18 passes for 174 yards.
Trey Richey hit three passes for 27 yards while Abberger also had three completions for 28 yards.
Moat hauled in five passes for 68 yards to lead the squad. Zekman also caught five passes for 45 yards. Maiorana hauled in four receptions while
Hayden Johnston and Krishnan had three receptions and two receptions, respectfully.
Richey led the ground attack with 18 yards. Abberger and Maiorana had 14 and 13 yards, respectfully.
Defensively,
Raymond Cargill and
Zach Sykes had nine tackles apiece. Cargill,
Drew Fortino and
Ron Lawrence each had tackles for loss. Cargill and
Leonard Humphreys II each had a sack.
Jack Hogan had three kick returns for 45 total yards. Moat had seven punts for 271 yards, averaging 38.7 per punt.
The Hornets return to action Saturday, Sept. 19, when they travel to Anderson. Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m.
