ADA, Ohio – The Kalamazoo College volleyball team was defeated in four sets in the season opener at Ohio Northern University Tuesday night.
After winning the opening set 25-20, Kalamazoo dropped the second set 25-15. The Hornets led 30-29 in the third set before falling 32-30. Ohio Northern clinched the match with a 27-25 win in set four.
Ohio Northern hit .224 in the match compared to .185 by Kalamazoo. The Hornets had 11 aces in the match compared to six by ONU.
Taylor Stephens had 14 kills, 19 digs and four aces, while
Quaneice Dillard had 14 kills and 18 digs.
Savannah Chapie had 12 kills with zero errors in 24 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. Chapie also led the team with four block assists.
Makala Goddard led the team with 43 assists along with seven kills.
Ashley Zollman led the defense with 29 digs.
Rachel Hursey finished with 13 digs.
Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 5, with matches at Heidelberg against Allegheny and Hiram.
