TIFFIN, Ohio – The Kalamazoo College volleyball team split a doubleheader Saturday at the Great Lakes Crossover hosted by Heidelberg University. The Hornets beat Allegheny College before falling to Hiram College.

Kalamazoo outlasted Allegheny in three straight tight sets. The Hornets surged in set one after a 15-15 tie midway through the set, held off the Gators in a battle of long scoring runs in set two, and used a 7-1 run late in the third to secure the victory.
Kalamazoo hit .245 in the match compared to .155 by Allegheny.
Taylor Stephens led the Hornets offensively with 12 kills, adding seven digs and three blocks. Quanice Dillard added a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs, hitting .304 in the match with four service aces.
Makala Goddard ran the offense well for Kalamazoo, collecting 33 assists with four aces. Ashley Zollman had a team-high 16 digs.
Hiram d. Kalamazoo 26-24, 25-23, 25-19
The Hornets couldn't hold off Hiram in set one, as the Terriers charged back late in the set including taking the final three points. Hiram again took the last three points in a tight second set before charging ahead midway through set three to claim the match.
Kalamazoo was outhit by the Terriers, .155 to .124.
Dillard led the Hornets with 10 kills. Savannah Chapie picked up eight kills and three blocks.
Zollman had 29 digs to anchor the defensive effort, while Goddard added 32 assists.
