Baseball Rallies Past Albion Monday

ALBION, Mich.– The Kalamazoo College baseball team beat Albion College, 10-7, Monday to finish a series sweep and move to 6-0 in MIAA play Monday.

Robert Newland got the Hornets on the board first with a home run to lead off the fourth inning. Kalamazoo added two more runs that inning, but Albion responded with two runs in the bottom half and five in the fifth to take a 7-3 lead.

The Hornets battled back, with Cade Preissing hitting an RBI double in the sixth to make it 7-4. Alex Fenkell hit his second RBI single of the game as part of a two-run seventh to bring Kalamazoo within one.

Caleb Moore bashed a two-run homer in the top of the eighth to give the Hornets an 8-7 lead. Ryar Rinehart singled in a pair in the ninth to add insurance runs and cap off the scoring.

Dillon Rodriguez threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings to help Kalamazoo start the comeback. Carson Merritt entered and blanked Albion in the seventh to earn his first collegiate win.

Cole Bronoel-Cuthrell set the Britons down in order in the eighth, and Owen Schihl picked up his second save this year by keeping Albion off the board in the ninth.

Rinehart and Moore had three hits each to lead the Hornets, with Moore's three runs scored leading all players.

Kalamazoo (22-2, 6-0) returns home to finish its suspended game against Calvin University (9-16, 0-6) Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Woodworth Field, with the regularly scheduled game between the Hornets and Knights to follow.
