GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.– The #6 Kalamazoo College baseball team beat Calvin University Wednesday, 9-4, in a postponed game originally scheduled for April 14, completing a season series sweep of the Knights.
Calvin struck first in the bottom of the second, but Kalamazoo jumped on top with three runs in the top of the third. The Knights got one back in the fifth to make it a 3-2 game.
The Hornets added three more in the sixth and two in the seventh before Calvin responded with two of its own in the bottom half. Kalamazoo notched the final run of the ballgame in the top of the eighth.
Austin Keur, Alex Fenkell and Cade Preissing had two hits each for the Hornets, with Keur and Fenkell both scoring twice. Parker Aten (3-0) took the win, throwing 2 2/3 innings of one-run ball in relief.
Cole Bronoel-Cuthrell struck out two batters across 1 1/3 scoreless innings, and Robert Ahlgren closed out the game with 2 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out three.
Kalamazoo (29-4, 13-2) opens its weekend series against Alma College (22-11-1, 10-5) Friday at 4 p.m. at Woodworth Field.
