ANGOLA, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team beat Trine University on the road Wednesday, 22-12.
The Hornets started strong, scoring six of the first seven goals en route to a 9-7 halftime lead. Kalamazoo charged again in the third quarter, outscoring the Thunder 8-1 in the frame.
Trine scored three straight to start the fourth, but the Hornets roared back to score five goals later in the quarter to pull away for the win.
Ella Spooner had a phenomenal offensive effort, leading Kalamazoo with seven goals and four assists with three ground balls and three draw controls. Tessa Fuller added five goals, two assists and three ground balls.
Jordan Doyle scored four goals with one assist, while Sophie Hartl and Abbie Caza both chipped in two goals and an assist. Hartl added a team-high five ground balls and three draw controls.
Kennedy Hynde led the Hornets with 14 draw controls, the most in a game by any Kalamazoo player this season. Kaitlyn Grice made one save in net and earned the victory.
Kalamazoo women's lacrosse hosts Saint Mary's University on Saturday at 4 p.m. for Senior Day at MacKenzie Field.
