CLERMONT, Fla. – The Kalamazoo College softball team dropped a pair of games to Macalester and Salem State on the Hornets' opening day in Florida.
Macalester 7, Kalamazoo 6
Kalamazoo trailed 4-1 after four innings but tied the game with three runs in the top of the fifth on a 3-run home run by
Emma Newlove.
Grace Rocco's 2-run homer in the top of the seventh put Kalamazoo up 6-4, but Macalester pushed three runs across in the bottom half to win 7-6.
Five different Hornets each had a hit including the home runs by Rocco and Newlove.
Jaycee Rider had a double.
Alyssa Hinkley singled, while
Macy Ward singled and drove in a run.
Salem State 12, Kalamazoo 2
The game was tied 2-2 after two innings before Salem State scored multiple runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings to take the 12-2 lead and win.
Lily Evans and
Ella Neumann each hit solo home runs in the second inning.
Alyssa Hinkley and
Grace Rocco each had a double.
