KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team lost, 11-4, against Southwestern University (TX) Friday in a lightning-shortened game at MacKenzie Field.
The Hornets scored first, but Southwestern struck back with two goals late in the first to grab a 2-1 lead. The Pirates pushed the advantage to 6-2 at halftime with four extra man goals.
Just over two minutes into the third quarter, the game was suspended due to lightning. Southwestern increased its lead throughout the second half before lightning resumed with 5:48 remaining in the fourth quarter, finishing the contest.
Max Plesscher scored three goals to lead Kalamazoo along with five ground balls. Jack Bungart had eight caused turnovers and six ground balls for the Hornets.
Teige Bredin scored the remaining goal for Kalamazoo, while Tony Valade made 12 saves in goal.
Kalamazoo men's lacrosse (3-2) travels to Alma College (0-4) for both teams' MIAA opener Wednesday at 7 p.m.
