KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College softball team played its first two home games of the season Sunday against North Park University, walking off game two to earn a split and the Hornets' first win of the season.
Game 1 - North Park 6, Kalamazoo 3
North Park opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first, and neither side scored again until Emma Newlove got the Hornets on the board with a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
The Vikings answered with two runs in the top of the fifth to make it 5-2. Landrie Fridsma doubled home London Rabb in the bottom half to bring Kalamazoo within two.
Another run for North Park in the top of the seventh pushed the lead to 6-3. The Vikings outhit the Hornets, 10-7, in the victory.
Rabb and Ella Neumann collected two hits each for the Hornets. Fridsma reached base three times and stole two bases. Maddie Potts threw a complete game, striking out two with no walks.
Game 2 – Kalamazoo 3, North Park 2
Kalamazoo struck first in game two as Fridsma hammered one over the left field fence for a two-run homer in the first. North Park responded with a run in the top of the third.
The score remained 2-1 until the Vikings scored again in the fifth to tie it at two. In the bottom of the seventh, Grace Rocco walked, and pinch runner Nadene Hubbard came around to score on Delaney Lee's walkoff RBI single.
Rabb and Lee both had two hits for Kalamazoo. Elizabeth Jones picked up her first collegiate win, throwing a complete game allowing two runs, one earned on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
