Baseball Wins Pair at Trine Sunday to Open MIAA Play

ANGOLA, Ind.– The Kalamazoo College baseball team won both games of a doubleheader against Trine University Sunday in both teams' MIAA opener. The game one victory was the 300th for head coach Mike Ott at Kalamazoo.

Game 1 - Kalamazoo 7, Trine 5
The Hornets struck first in the opening inning as Caleb Moore had an RBI infield single to score Cade Preissing. Kalamazoo added on four more in the third as Preissing and Alex Fenkell both hit two-run homers.

Trine fought back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, one in the fifth, and two more in the sixth to tie it at 5-5. In the top of the ninth, Robert Newland drilled a two-run blast to left field to put the Hornets ahead for good, 7-5.

Preissing, Newland and Logan Lockhart each collected a pair of hits for Kalamazoo. Robert Ahlgren (3-0) earned the win in relief, throwing three scoreless innings allowing just one hit with no walks and five strikeouts.

Game 2 - Kalamazoo 14, Trine 6
Kalamazoo once again scored in the top of the first, with Moore hitting a sac bunt to score Preissing. The Hornets added four more in the third, with a Liam Regan two-RBI single to cap off the rally, to make it 5-0.

The Thunder stormed back with six runs in the bottom of the fifth to grab a 6-5 lead. Kalamazoo didn't let it stand long, with Ryar Rinehart driving in Regan in the sixth to tie it.
