SPOKANE, Wash. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team was defeated 13-12 at Whitworth University Thursday evening.
Kalamazoo scored the first three goals of the game and led 4-2 after the first quarter. Whitworth outscored Kalamazoo 5-3 in the second quarter making it 7-7 at halftime. Kalamazoo led 9-8 midway through the third before a 4-0 run by Whitworth made it a 12-9 game. Kalamazoo scored three straight in the fourth to tie it with 8:54 remaining before Whitworth scored the eventual game-winner with 2:31 left in regulation.
Kalamazoo outshot Whitworth 34-29 overall, 26-11 on goal. The Hornets won 19 of the 27 draw controls.
Tessa Fuller led Kalamazoo offensively with five goals and three assists.
Ella Spooner and
Abbie Caza each scored twice.
Jordan Doyle had a goal and an assist.
Kennedy Hynde won 10 draw controls, while
Sophie Hartl had six draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Kaitlyn Grice was credited with eight saves in goal.
Kalamazoo's next contest is Saturday, March 21, at Whitman College beginning at 2 p.m. Pacific.
