WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team lost in overtime at Whitman College Saturday, 13-12.
Whitman took a 4-2 lead after the first quarter, and a back-and-forth second frame put the score at 7-5 in favor of the Blues at halftime.
The Hornets fought back, scoring the first four goals of the second half, and led 9-8 going into the fourth. Kalamazoo held a two goal lead twice in the final quarter, but could not hold off Whitman, which tied the game with eight seconds left in regulation before scoring the game-winning goal on a player up opportunity in overtime.
Ella Spooner led Kalamazoo with 10 points, tied for third-highest in a single game in program history, on eight goals and two assists including going 4-for-4 on free position opportunities. Abbie Caza had four assists, while Tessa Fuller chipped in two goals.
Kennedy Hynde had seven draw controls, adding one goal and one ground ball, while Sophie Hartl also had six draw controls. Grace Barber had two caused turnovers along with a ground ball. Kaitlyn Grice made seven saves in defeat.
Kalamazoo women's lacrosse faces off against Pacific Lutheran University on Wednesday at 4 p.m. (1 p.m. PT) in Tacoma, Wash.
