Baseball Cruises Past UMass Dartmouth

WINTER HAVEN, Fla.– The Kalamazoo College baseball team won its first game of the spring break trip, 19-6 in seven innings, over UMass Dartmouth.

After UMass Dartmouth scored one in the top of the second, the Hornets responded with an RBI double by Jackson Isaacs, followed by a single from Jack Friesen to plate Isaacs and give Kalamazoo a 2-1 lead.

The Hornets went off for an eight-run two-out rally in the third to push the advantage to 10-1. Caleb Moore started the rally with a two-run homer.

Kalamazoo scored seven more in the fourth to make it 17-1, adding two more in the fifth to bring the lead up to 18. The Corsairs scored five in the top of the seventh, but couldn't escape the run rule.

Carson Orvis was strong on the mound for the Hornets, allowing just one run on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts to improve to 3-0 on the season. In addition to his home run, Moore had a two-RBI triple, coming a double short of the cycle with two runs and four RBIs.

Friesen finished 3-for-3 with a walk, three runs and three RBIs, while Robert Newland was 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch, a double, two stolen bases, one run and three RBIs.
