Women's Basketball Defeats Saint Mary's 58-53

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team defeated Saint Mary's College 58-53 at home Wednesday night.
Saint Mary's led 16-11 after the first quarter and 29-27 at halftime.

Kalamazoo took an early lead in the third but trailed by as many as four in the quarter before ending the third tied 42-42. Kalamazoo opened the fourth on a 7-0 run and led by as many as eight (52-44) with 6:00 remaining. Saint Mary's cut it to three with 1:35 left and again with three seconds on the clock. Ruby Hogan hit a pair of free throws to seal the five-point win.

Kalamazoo shot 37.7 percent overall compared to 29.3 percent by Saint Mary's. The Belles made 16-of-29 free throws compared to 12-of-20 by the Hornets. Kalamazoo outrebounded Saint Mary's 46-35.

Lauren Vanderstelt fouled out while leading Kalamazoo with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocked shots.

Ruby Hogan finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and two blocked shots.

Semaj' Robertson scored 11 points with five assists and four steals in 29 minutes off the bench. Sophia Moir added eight points with three rebounds and two steals. Elisabeth Wilks scored three points with six rebounds and a block.

Kalamazoo is back in action at home against Calvin on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m.
