KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team won, 10-9, in a thriller over Illinois Tech Saturday at MacKenzie Field.
The Hornets took a 3-1 lead in the first quarter, pushing the advantage to 7-4 at halftime. Kalamazoo continued to be strong defensively in the third, carrying a 9-5 lead into the fourth quarter.
Illinois Tech scored three goals in the first two minutes of the final frame to make things close, but a goal from Luke Burzynski restored the lead to two goals at 10-8. The Scarlet Hawks scored a man-up goal in the final minute to get back within one, but couldn't net the equalizer as the Hornets finished off the win.
Burzynski and Max Plesscher scored three goals apiece, with Plesscher also causing two turnovers. Dylan Adkins also notched three points on one goal and two assists with two ground balls.
Jack Bungart led the Hornets in ground balls and caused turnovers with six each. In goal, Tony Valade made nine saves in the victory.
Kalamazoo men's lacrosse (3-1) hosts Southwestern (TX) (3-0) on Friday at 6 p.m. at MacKenzie Field.
