KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team defeated Ohio Northern University Wednesday at MacKenzie Field, 11-7.
Ohio Northern took a 4-2 lead after the first quarter, but the Hornets charged back in the second, outscoring the Polar Bears 4-1 including two goals in the final minute to snag a 6-5 lead at halftime.
After Ohio Northern tied the score at seven in the third, Kalamazoo scored two in a row to take a 9-7 lead into the fourth quarter. The Hornets defense stayed strong, shutting out the Polar Bears in the final frame to secure the victory.
Ella Spooner led Kalamazoo with four goals in the win, securing four draw controls and three caused turnovers. Tessa Fuller also had four points on two goals and two assists with three ground balls.
Sophie Hartl (2g, 1a) and and Jordan Doyle (1g, 2a) both scored three points for the Hornets. Kennedy Hynde notched a team-high five ground balls with four draw controls and one goal.
In goal, Kaitlyn Grice made nine saves for the win, moving to 2-1 on the year.
Kalamazoo women's lacrosse hits the road for the first time this season on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Oberlin College.
