Women's Basketball Falls 79-75 in Overtime to Albion

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team ended up on the short end of a 79-75 decision in overtime at home against Albion College (17-6, 10-4) Saturday afternoon.

Kalamazoo (7-16, 6-8) led 13-9 after the first quarter and 24-22 at halftime. Albion led by as many as four in the third quarter before Kalamazoo came back to take a 43-38 lead heading into the fourth. After a 46-46 tie, Kalamazoo went on a 13-4 run to lead 59-50 with 2:24 left in regulation. Albion scored 15 points in the final 2:12 including a three-pointer at the buzzer to tie it at 65-65 and send the game to overtime.

Albion scored first in overtime and despite Kalamazoo tying it twice, the Hornets were never able to get a lead before time expired.

Kalamazoo shot 38.6 percent overall for the game while hitting 8-of-31 three-pointers. Albion shot 36.6 percent and made 6-of-14 from behind the arc. The Britons sank 21-of-26 at the free throw line compared to 13-of-22 by Kalamazoo. The Hornets held a 47-46 edge in rebounds with each team grabbing 15 on their offensive end. Kalamazoo players blocked 12 shots in the game.

Sophia Moir led Kalamazoo offensively with 20 points and nine rebounds.

Ruby Hogan scored 18 points with 13 rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Lauren Vanderstelt scored 14 points with 13 rebounds and nine blocked shots.

Elisabeth Wilks finished with 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Semaj' Robertson added eight points with three rebounds.

Kalamazoo is back in action at Saint Mary's College on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m.
