KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College volleyball team was defeated in five sets by Saint Mary's College in a hard-fought MIAA opener on Saturday inside the Anderson Athletic Center. The two teams split the first four sets before Saint Mary's closed it out 15-25, 26-24, 18-25, 25-10, 15-10.
Kalamazoo hit .168 in the match compared to .162 by Saint Mary's. The Hornets had nine aces to six by Saint Mary's. Kalamazoo also had 11 total blocks to Saint Mary's four.
Mya Parks and
Scarlett Hosner each had 15 kills to lead the Hornets offensively. Parks was also in on four blocks. Hosner had nine digs and one block assist.
Savannah Chapie added 14 kills with a .444 hitting percentage. She also had a solo block and six block assists.
Taylor Stephens finished with 10 kills, 19 digs and three block assists.
Cienna Nightingale added five kills with four block assists.
Makala Goddard led the team with 54 assists and 19 digs.
Ashley Zollman had a team-high 29 digs and five aces.
Rachel Hursey finished with 19 digs and two aces.
Kalamazoo is back in action at home next Wednesday, Oct. 7, when the Hornets host Calvin at 7 p.m.
