KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost a tight battle against The University of Olivet Saturday at Anderson Athletic Center, 82-75.
After Olivet led early, the Hornets used a 10-0 run featuring three-point baskets by Lucas Hanifan and Carter Bandemer to take a 17-12 advantage. Kalamazoo remained ahead for the rest of the first half, leading 36-33 at the break on 50.0% shooting from the field, a 38.5% clip from beyond the three-point line, and a 19-15 advantage in rebounds.
Things stayed tight in the second half, with Olivet knocking down a three-pointer with 4:12 to go to take its first lead since the first seven minutes of the game. Patrick Perez answered with a bucket to regain a 68-67 lead, but four straight free throws for the Comets put them ahead for good.
Olivet impressed in the second half to finish the game shooting 55.1% from the field and 44.4% from deep, while the Hornets were 46.7% overall and 39.3% from beyond the arc. Kalamazoo slightly outrebounded the Comets, 33-31.
Perez led the way for the Hornets with 19 points with five assists and four rebounds. Bandemer added 14 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Hanifan had 13 points, four rebounds, four assists and a game-high three steals.
Jackson Keefer had nine points on three three-pointers with five rebounds. Nelson Sompa led Kalamazoo in assists, with six, along with six points.
Kalamazoo men's basketball travels to Hope College Wednesday at 7 p.m. for another MIAA matchup.
