KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost, 74-66, against Hope College Wednesday at Anderson Athletic Center.
After a tight first half in which neither team led by more than five points, the Hornets held a 38-35 lead at halftime on 45.2% shooting from the field and 38.5% from three-point range. Hope made 51.6% of its shots from the field, but only 23.1% from deep, and led 19-16 in rebounds.
The Flying Dutchmen used a 16-2 run to open the second half to take the lead, but Kalamazoo roared back with a 15-4 charge of its own to tie the score at 55 with 10 minutes remaining. The game remained tight from that point, but the Hornets were unable to get the lead back in the closing minutes.
Hope finished the game shooting 52.4% from the field and 20.0% from beyond the arc. Kalamazoo was 40.4% overall and 29.2% from deep.
Jackson Keefer led the Hornets in scoring with a season-high 15 points off the bench on 5-of-9 shooting. Patrick Perez added 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Caleb Caul also scored 14 points, a new high for the season, with five rebounds. Lucas Hanifan had nine points, three rebounds and three steals, while Nelson Sompa had a team-best three assists along with six points and three rebounds.
Kalamazoo men's basketball (3-13, 0-5 MIAA) hosts Alma (2-14, 0-5) Saturday at 3 p.m. at Anderson Athletic Center for Alumni Day.
