KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team defeated Saint Mary's Tuesday at MacKenzie Field by a score of 2-0 in both teams' MIAA opener. The win improves the Hornets' record to 7-3-1 (1-0 MIAA), while the loss brings the Belles to 6-1-2 (0-1 MIAA).
In the ninth minute, Mia Crites broke free and scored the game's opening goal for Kalamazoo.
Late in the first half, Ruby Hogan scored on a header off of a corner kick from Maeve Nolan to make it 2-0 Hornets.
Kalamazoo held off Saint Mary's in the second half to earn the shutout victory, outshooting the Belles 19-9 overall and 11-6 in shots on goal. Jess Forbis stopped all six shots faced for her sixth shutout of the season.
The Hornets continue conference play on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Adrian, with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
