KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College baseball team split the final regular season home doubleheader with Alma on Saturday. Kalamazoo won the opener, 6-5, before falling 9-6 in 11 innings in game two.
Game One – Kalamazoo 6, Alma 5
Kalamazoo led 1-0 after the second inning but trailed 2-1 after four. The Hornets added runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take a 6-2 lead. Alma scored three in the eighth to make it 6-5, but the Hornets held on for the win.
Each team had 10 hits in the game.
Caleb Moore,
David Stechow and
Cade Preissing each had two hits.
Moore and
Cam Kelly each had a double.
Tanner Hawkins had two RBIs.
Ben Van Nes struck out four in 1.2 innings of relief.
Steven Shelton earned the win in a scoreless inning of relief.
Carson Orvis closed out the game for the save.
Game Two – Alma 9, Kalamazoo 6 (11 inn.)
Kalamazoo led 6-0 after five innings. Alma scored four in the sixth and two in the seventh to tie it. After three scoreless innings by both teams, Alma scored three in the 11
th and held Kalamazoo scoreless in the bottom half to end the game.
Kalamazoo outhit Alma 10-9.
Robert Newland finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Caleb Moore and
Logan Lockhart each had two hits.
Cooper Mills had a double.
