ADRIAN, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College baseball team defeated Adrian College 5-4 in the opening game of the MIAA Tournament on Thursday. Kalamazoo will play the winner of the Calvin/Alma game on Thursday at 3 p.m.
Fourth-seeded Kalamazoo took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a single by
Cooper Mills. Top-seeded Adrian responded with two runs in the bottom half. The Bulldogs went ahead with a run in the fifth. The Hornets scored twice in the sixth before going up 5-3 in the top of the seventh. Adrian made it 5-4 with a run in the bottom half. The Hornet bullpen allowed just one base runner in the final two innings.
Adrian outhit Kalamazoo 11-10.
Cooper Mills and
Ryar Rinehart each had two hits. Mills stole a base and drove in two runs.
Daniel Beccari and
Alex Fenkell also drove in a run.
Logan Lockhart went 6.1 innings on the mound to earn the win.
Owen Schihl and
Robert Ahlgren combined for 1.2 innings in relief.
Jacob Davis pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
The winner of Thursday's semifinal game advances to Friday's championship game at noon. The loser of Thursday's semifinal will play in the loser's bracket on Thursday at 6 p.m.
