Angola, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College women's softball team fell on the road to #7 Trine in a doubleheader on Sunday (April 6) afternoon. The Hornets fell 8-0 in game one and 15-0 in game two.
Kalamazoo is now 11-9 on the season and 0-2 in MIAA conference play.
Game One, L – 8-0 (6 inn.)
In game one, Trine took control early with a solo home run to left center in the first inning. The Thunder extended their lead in the third, plating three more runs on back-to-back doubles to go up 4-0.
They continued with an RBI single in the fourth and a two-run double in the fifth, stretching the lead to 7-0. Trine secured the victory in the sixth with a single through the right side, securing an 8-0 mercy rule win.
Brenna Fisher and
Jordan Wesaw each went 1-3 at the plate, while
Bella Caza added a 1-2 performance.
Maddy Vrba started in the circle and took the loss (4-3), pitching four innings.
Game Two, L – 15-0 (5 inn.)
In game two, the Thunder jumped out to an early 4-0 to start the first inning, then added on four more runs across the second and third to extend their lead to 8-0.
Trine secured the victory in the fifth inning, six more runs to take the 15-0 mercy rule victory.
Jordan Cook started in the circle and took the loss (2-4), while
Maddie Potts came in to pitch three innings and recorded two strikeouts.
The Hornets return home on Wednesday, April 9
th, as they host Calvin in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
