Kalamazoo, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College softball team dropped their doubleheader against Calvin on Friday afternoon, 5-3 and 5-4. The Hornets are now 11-11 on the season and 0-4 in MIAA conference play.
Game One, L – 5-3
The Hornets got on the board first off a
Jordan Wesaw double to left center to drive
Brenna Fisher across the plate in the bottom of the first. The Knights responded back in the second inning with three runs off two hits to make it a 3-1 ballgame.
In the fourth inning, Calvin added two more runs with a solo home run to right center and a sacrifice fly. The Hornets responded back at the bottom of the inning as Fisher singled to the right center to score
Emma Newlove and
Maddie Potts, cutting the deficit to 5-3.
Jordan Cook started in the circle and suffered the loss (2-5).
Brenna Fisher went 2-4 with two RBIs, and
Jordan Wesaw went 1-4 with one RBI.
Macy Ward and
Emma Newlove each added a hit.
Game Two, L – 5-4
In game two, Kalamazoo was first to score off an
Emma Newlove two-run homer to left field in the second inning. The Knights responded back immediately with two runs of their own off two sacrifice flies.
In the third inning, Calvin added on two more off two hits to take a 4-2 lead.
The Hornets drove across a run in the fourth inning off a
Lily Evans single up the middle to drive in
Emma Newlove to make it a 4-3 game. Calvin scored in the fifth to take another two-run lead (5-3).
In the bottom of the seventh,
Jordan Wesaw scored on a wild pitch to make it a 5-4 game, but the Hornets were unable to complete the comeback.
Maddy Vrba got the start in the circle and suffered the loss (4-4).
Emma Newlove led the Hornets offense as she went 3-4 with two RBIs, followed by
Alyssa Hinkley, who went 2-4.
Lily Evans went 1-2 with one RBI.
Brenna Fisher,
Landrie Fridsma,
Bella Caza,
Macy Ward, and
Shelby Bennett each added a hit.
The Hornets return to action on Sunday, April 13
th, as they host St. Mary's (Ind.) in a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m.
