Women's Lacrosse Falls to Calvin in Double Overtime

Kalamazoo, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team fell to Calvin 15-14 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets are now 2-10 overall and 1-2 in MIAA conference play.

The Hornets jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the first quarter and extended their advantage to 8-5 by halftime. However, Calvin responded after the break, outscoring Kalamazoo 9-6 in the second half to tie the game and send it into overtime. After a scoreless first overtime period, Morgan Bethard sealed the win for the Knights in double overtime.

Calvin held the advantage in shots (43-24) and ground balls (21-18), while Kalamazoo led 17-16 in draw controls.

Sophie Hartl and Tessa Fuller each recorded hat tricks for the Hornets. Hartl also added two draw controls and a ground ball, while Fuller contributed two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and an assist.

Ella Spooner tallied two goals, three draw controls, and an assist. Kennedy Hynde chipped in with two goals and a team-high eight draw controls, and Morgan Vasquez added two goals and one assist.

Julia Kozal and Abbie Caza each found the back of the net for the Hornets.

In the net, Jordan Flink recorded 13 saves and a team-high of six ground balls.

The Hornets return to action on Tuesday, April 8th, as they take on Hope at 5:00 p.m.
