KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team was defeated 9-8 by Wheaton College in non-conference play on Tuesday at Woodworth Field.
Wheaton scored first with a run in the top of the third, followed by three runs by Kalamazoo in the bottom half. Wheaton tied it with two runs in the sixth before Kalamazoo regained the lead with a run in the bottom half. Similar story in the seventh as Wheaton scored a run to tie before a Hornet run in the bottom half put Kalamazo up 5-4. Kalamazoo went up 8-4 with three runs in the bottom of the eight. Wheaton rallied for five runs in the top of the ninth to take a 9-8 lead. Kalamazoo had runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to score.
Kalamazoo outhit Wheaton 11-10.
Ryar Rinehart led Kalamazoo offensively with three hits.
Cooper Mills had two hits and three stolen bases.
Logan Lockhart doubled and drove in two runs.
Kalamazoo returns to league play on Friday when the Hornets travel to Alma for a single game at 4 p.m. The final regular season doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday at home beginning at 1 p.m.
