Baseball Completes Sweep of Olivet

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College baseball team defeated The University of Olivet 7-2 on Sunday. The game began on Friday but was halted in the first inning due to lightning.

Olivet scored a run in the top of the third to take the first lead of the game. Logan Lockhart's two-run single in the bottom half put Kalamazoo up 2-1. The Hornets went up 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth before an Olivet run in the top of the sixth made it 3-2. Kalamazoo pulled away with two in the bottom of the sixth, one in the seventh and one in the eighth.

Kalamazoo outhit Olivet 10-9.

David Stechow finished with three hits and an RBI.

Logan Lockhart had two hits including a double and two RBIs.

Robert Newland and Alex DiDio also doubled in the game. Cooper Mills stole three bases.

Both starting pitchers from Friday returned to the mound today. Jacob Davis struck out five in 4.1 total innings. Cole Bronoel-Cuthrell picked up the win in relief. Owen Schihl earned the save with six strikeouts and zero runs allowed over the final 3.1 innings.

Kalamazoo improved to 25-11 overall and 11-7 in the MIAA, securing a spot in this year's MIAA Tournament. The Hornets are scheduled to host Wheaton College on Tuesday, April 29, at 4 p.m. Kalamazoo closes out the regular season with a three-game series against Alma on Friday and Saturday.
