Holland, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College softball team split its Saturday doubleheader against Hope College, claiming a 5-0 victory in game one before falling 4-1 in the second matchup. With the split, the Hornets move to 16-12 overall and 5-5 in MIAA play.
Game One – W, 5-0
Kalamazoo struck early with a three-run second inning.
Alyssa Hinkley got things started with an RBI single to left-center, scoring
Macy Ward.
Landrie Fridsma followed with a two-run single to left, bringing home Hinkley and
Bella Caza.
The Hornets added two more insurance runs in the sixth.
Brenna Fisher singled up the middle to plate
Shelby Bennett, and Fridsma later reached on a fielder's choice to score
Lily Evans.
Macy Ward led the Hornets' offense as she went 2-4.
Landrie Fridsma finished 1-4 with a game-high three RBIs, while
Brenna Fisher,
Jordan Wesaw,
Bella Caza,
Alyssa Hinkley,
Shelby Bennett, and
Lily Evans all added a hit.
Maddy Vrba earned the win in the circle (6-4), tossing eight strikeouts and allowing just two hits.
Game Two – L, 4-1
In game two, Hope was first on the board with four runs in the second inning. The Hornets managed their lone run in the sixth when
Bella Caza lifted a sacrifice fly to bring in Fridsma.
Jaycee Rider led the offense as she went 2-3.
Brenna Fisher,
Landrie Fridsma,
Jordan Wesaw,
Emma Newlove, and
Macy Ward all collected a hit for the Hornets.
Jordan Cook suffered the loss in the circle (4-6), striking out one and allowing five hits.
The Hornets return to action on Monday, April 21
st, as the face North Park in a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m.
