Kalamazoo, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team defeated St. Mary's (Ind.) 16-4 on Wednesday night. The Hornets improve to 3-11 overall and 2-3 in MIAA Conference play.
The Hornets held the advantage in shots (31-14) and ground balls (23-15). Both teams were even on draw controls with 12 apiece, but the Hornets' defense forced 28 turnovers.
Kalamazoo jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the first period before adding on another two in the second to take a 10-3 advantage heading into half. In the second half, the Hornets outscored the Belles 6-1 to secure their 16-4 victory.
Ella Spooner led the Hornets' offense with a career-high seven goals, seven draw controls, three ground balls, and two assists.
Tessa Fuller contributed five goals, while
Natalie Maki added three.
Abbie Caza added on one goal and two assists.
Defensively,
Mackenzie Newhall led the effort with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Julia Kozal added four ground balls and forced two turnovers of her own.
In goal,
Jordan Flink recorded four saves and reached a significant milestone, surpassing 500 career saves.

th, as they face Trine at 1:00 p.m.
