Kalamazoo, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team defeated Alma 19-9 on Tuesday night in their first conference play match-up.
The Hornets are now 2-8 on the season.
Kalamazoo took an early lead, going up 5-2 in the first period and extending it to 10-5 by halftime. The Hornets dominated in the second half, outscoring the Scots 9-4 to claim a 19-9 victory.
The Hornets held the advantage in shots (38-24), ground balls (20-19), and draw controls (16-12). Additionally, the Hornets' defense forced 19 turnovers.
Julia Kozal and
Ella Spooner powered the Hornets' offense with four goals each. Kozal also led the team with six caused turnovers and three ground balls, while Spooner contributed three ground balls and two draw controls.
Morgan Vasquez and
Tessa Fuller each netted three goals, with Fuller also dishing out a team-high five assists.
Abbie Caza added two goals, while
Jordan Doyle,
Natalie Maki, and
Kennedy Hynde each found the back of the net. Hynde also led with a team-high of nine draw controls.
In goal,
Jordan Flink secured the win with nine saves and two ground balls.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday, April 5
th, as they host Calvin at 1:00 p.m. in their compete for a cause game.
