Shreveport, La. – The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team defeated Centenary (La.) 23-9 on Friday night. The Hornets improve to 5-2 on the season.
The Hornets jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in the first quarter and extended their advantage with a nine-goal second quarter, entering halftime up 14-4. They continued to control the game in the second half, outscoring Centenary 9-5 to secure the win.
The Hornets held an advantage in shots (55-31), ground balls (42-21), and face offs (28-8), while also forcing 24 turnovers on defense.
Mitchel VanGalder led Kalamazoo's offense with a career high five goals, followed by
Cam VanGalder with four goals, four ground balls, and one assist.
Dylan Adkins and
Logan Gillis each tallied three goals, with Gillis also recording a team-high four assists, matched by
Teige Bredin.
Ronin Honda found the back of the net twice for the Hornets while adding four ground balls and one assist.
Tate Bless,
Grayson Pratt,
Max Plesscher,
Ryan Everham,
Martin Welles, and
Ethan Huebsch all joined in with a goal themselves.
Welles led the team with seven ground balls, followed by
Oskar Sears with five.
Defensively,
Jack Bungart had two caused turnovers, while
Brody Quinn,
Aravind Krishnan, and
Colby Skinner all recorded one.
In the net,
Charles Graves recorded seven saves, collected four ground balls and earned his fourth win of the season.
The Hornets return to Kalamazoo on Wednesday, April 2
nd, as they host Alma at 7:00 p.m. for their Senior Night.
