READING, Pa. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team secured its first win of the season with a thrilling 20-19 overtime victory against Albright on Saturday afternoon, improving to 1-7.
The Hornets started strong, building a 3-1 lead before Albright rallied to take an 11-9 advantage at halftime. In the second half, Kalamazoo fought back, tying the game at 15 with 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The Hornets then pulled ahead by two, but Albright responded with back-to-back goals to even the score at 18.
With under three minutes left, Kalamazoo regained the lead (19-18), only for Albright to force overtime with a goal in the final 12 seconds.
In overtime,
Julia Kozal delivered the game-winning shot, sealing the victory for the Hornets.
Albright led in shots (38-35) and draw controls (24-16), while Kalamazoo had a slight edge in ground balls (19-18).
Kennedy Hynde paced the offense with a career-high four goals, adding three ground balls, three draw controls, and one caused turnover.
Marin Miroslavich,
Sophie Hartl, and
Tessa Fuller each tallied three goals, with Fuller also contributing a team-high four assists.
Julia Kozal,
Natalie Maki, and
Morgan Vasquez scored two goals apiece. Vasquez led the team with five draw controls, while Kozal added four draw controls and four ground balls.
The Hornets conclude their spring break trip in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, March 25, with a matchup against Swarthmore at 7:00 p.m.
