Baseball Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader at Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College baseball team swept a doubleheader at Earlham on Saturday behind a pair of strong pitching performances. Kalamazoo won the opener 4-0 before taking game two 12-1 in eight innings.

Game One

Kalamazoo defeated Earlham 4-0 with in a one-hitter by Jacob Davis.

Kalamazoo was held hitless until the seventh when Tanner Hawkins singled to right. Following a walk, Robert Newland drove in Hawkins for the first run of the game. Kalamazoo finished with five hits and four runs in the final three innings as Hawkins and Cooper Mills each had RBIs.

Jacob Davis went the distance for the Hornets, allowing just one hit to leadoff the bottom of the fourth. Davis finished with a career-high 13 strikeouts and four walks in the one-hit shutout.

Tanner Hawkins finished with two hits and an RBI. Liam Regan had a hit and scored twice.

Game Two

After falling behind 1-0 in the fourth, Kalamazoo scored one in the sixth to tie, three in the seventh and eight in the eighth to win 12-1 in eight innings.

Kalamazoo finished with eight hits compared to seven by Earlham.

Logan Lockhart had two hits with two RBIs and two runs scored. Ryar Rinehart doubled and had four RBIs.

Cooper Mills scored three runs and stole two bases. David Stechow also stole two bases as Kalamazoo finished with six in the game.

Robert Ahlgren earned the win, allowing just one run in 6.2 innings while striking out 10 and walking one. Ben Van Nes struck out three in the final 1.1 innings.

Kalamazoo and Earlham wrap up the series on Sunday with a single game scheduled to begin at noon.
