NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team secured a road victory against St. Mary's (Ind.) with an 83-73 win. The Hornets are now 8-13 overall and 3-9 in MIAA Conference play.
Kalamazoo held St. Mary's (Ind.) to 10 points in the first quarter, taking a 39-23 heading into halftime. Despite the Belles outscoring Kalamazoo 50-44 in the second half, the Hornets maintained control to secure the victory.
The Hornets shot 41.8% from the field, 40.9% behind the arc, and 51.4% on the free-throw line, while the Belles hit 39% in the field, 30.4% at three-point range, and 76.9% at the line.
Kalamazoo dominated the glass, outrebounding St. Mary's (Ind.) 52-35, grabbing 20 offensive rebounds leading to 19 second-chance points.
The Hornets' defense forced 15 turnovers, swiping six steals and recording nine points.
Ruby Hogan and
Lauren Vanderstelt led the Hornets, each dropping 23 points. Hogan contributed significantly on the boards with 11 rebounds and five assists, while Vanderstelt added eight rebounds, four blocks, and two assists.
Sophia Moir notched up 12 points and seven rebounds, while
Jackie Brines added eight points and nine rebounds.
