ALBION, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated 81-74 at Albion College Wednesday night.
Kalamazoo led 21-19 at the end of the first quarter. The Hornets led by as many as seven (30-23) in the second quarter before taking a 36-34 lead into halftime. The Hornets pulled ahead by seven (48-41) with 5:16 left in the third before a 12-3 run by Albion put the Britons on top. Albion led 59-56 at the end of three. Kalamazoo cut the deficit to one three times in the fourth including 71-70 with 3:35 remaining. The Hornets were unable to regain the lead as Albion pulled away with the 81-74 win.
The host Britons shot 48.2 percent overall compared to 44.1 percent by Kalamazoo. The Hornets made 7-of-20 three-pointers compared to 3-of-9 by Albion. The Britons sank 24-of-29 free throws compared to 15-of-17 by Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo held a 34-31 advantage in rebounds.
Ruby Hogan led the Hornets with 23 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
Alyse Baughman scored 14 points with eight rebounds.
Jackie Brines finished with 11 points.
Lauren Vanderstelt scored seven points with five rebounds. Sophia Moor added seven points with two assists and two steals.
Kalamazoo returns to action at Saint Mary's on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m.
