KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team won its home opener 12-9 over Aurora University on Wednesday at MacKenzie Field.
Cam VanGalder scored the game's first goal just under four minutes into the contest. Aurora tied it with a goal with 9:47 left. Kalamazoo regained the lead for good just 44 seconds later.
Kalamazoo led 3-1 at the end of the first quarter and 8-3 at halftime. Aurora outscored Kalamazoo 5-1 in the third, cutting the deficit to one (9-8). The Hornets would score the next three goals, however, and finished with the 12-9 win.
Kalamazoo outshot Aurora 45-32 overall. Aurora won 13-of-24 face offs.
Cam VanGalder led the Hornets with four goals and an assist.
Logan Gillis scored three goals with two assists and five ground balls.
Dylan Adkins scored two goals with four ground balls.
Mitchel VanGalder also scored twice.
Jack Bungart recorded 10 ground balls with five caused turnovers.
Charles Graves made 13 saves in goal.
Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday, March 1, at Illinois Tech.
