Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team split a doubleheader at Oglethorpe University on Saturday falling 8-4 in game won before winning game two 13-11 in eight innings.

Game One (9 scheduled innings)
Oglethorpe scored first with two runs in the bottom of the second. The Stormy Petrels added two runs in the fourth and four in the seventh. Kalamazoo scored one run in the third, one in the sixth, and two on David Stechow's single up the middle in the ninth. The Hornets had two runners on in the ninth when the final out was recorded.

Oglethorpe finished with 12 hits compared to 11 by Kalamazoo.

Cooper Mills finished with two hits and an RBI. David Stechow had two hits and two RBIs. Cade Preissing also drove in a run.

Robert Newland and Cam Kelly each stole two bases in the game.

Game Two (7 scheduled innings)
Kalamazoo won Saturday's second game 13-11 in eight innings for the Hornets first win of the season.

The Hornets jumped out to a big lead with eight runs in the second inning, highlighted by Ryar Rinehart's bases clearing double. Oglethorpe scored two in the bottom of the inning. Rinehart drove in two more runs with a single in the third to make it 10-2, Kalamazoo. Oglethorpe scored one in the bottom of the third before adding five runs in the fifth to make it a 10-8 game. A Stechow single in the seventh drove in another run for the Hornets, but Oglethorpe scored three in the bottom half to tie it at 11-11 and send the game to extras. With two outs in the top of the eighth, Cade Preissing drove in Cooper Mills with a single up the middle. Rinehart followed with a double to score Mills making it 13-11. Oglethorpe's leadoff batter walked in the bottom of the eighth, but the next three batters were retired to end the game.

Kalamazoo finished with 19 hits in the game compared to 10 by Oglethorpe. Kalamazoo also stole five bases in the game.

Ryar Rinehart finished 6-for-6 in the game with four doubles and six RBIs. The six hits ties the school record, while his four doubles set a new school record.

Cooper Mills finished with two hits and three runs scored. David Stechow had two hits and an RBI. Tanner Hawkins had two hits and an RBI. Austin Kerr had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Ben Van Nes was credited with the win with the final two innings of relief on the mound.
