ALMA, Mich.- The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team secured a 75-62 victory over Alma on Wednesday night. The Hornets improve their record to 9-15 overall and 4-11 in MIAA Conference play.
The Hornets lead 40-27 heading into halftime, as they outscored the Scots 18-14 in the first quarter and 22-13 in the second. The Scots battled back to cut the deficit down to eight points heading into the fourth period but the Hornets pulled away by outscoring the Scots 21-16 in the final period.
Kalamazoo shot 48.2% from the field, 66.7% behind the arc, and 56.5% on the free line compared to Alma's 40%, 21.1%, and 47.4% respectively.
The Hornets' defense forced 14 turnovers, snagged six steals, and converted them into 17 points.
Ruby Hogan recorded a career-high of 34 points shooting 12-23 in the field, 9-12 on the line, and 1-1 behind the arc, just two points shy of the program's single-game scoring record set in 1992. Hogan also hauled in eight rebounds and dished out a team-high five assists.
Jackie Brines notched up 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists, while
Lauren Vanderstelt added nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Josee Cooke and
Taylor Dinda each tallied six points to the Hornets' final scoring, both knocking down two of three from three-point range.
Sophia Moir chipped in five points and
Alyse Baughman added four points.
The Hornets close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 22
nd as they take on No.11 Trine at 1:00 p.m.
