ANGOLA, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated 68-51 in the Hornets' final game of the season on Saturday.
The Hornets put up a strong first-half performance, holding a 28-27 lead against No.11 Trine, at halftime. The Thunder responded back in the second half, outscoring the Hornets 22-17 in the third quarter and 19-6 in the fourth quarter to claim a 17-point victory.
Trine shot 37.7% from the field, 28.6% behind the arc, and 88.9% on the free-throw line, compared to the Hornets' 38.2%, 27.3%, and 2.9% respectively. The Thunder held a 36-34 advantage in rebounds.
Defensively, the Hornets forced 11 turnovers and collected five steals, converting them into 10 points.
Ruby Hogan led the Hornets with 17 points on 7 of 8 shooting from the field and 1-3 behind the arc, while dishing out a team-high of four assists.
Lauren Vanderstelt recorded her fifth double-double of the season, recording 10 points and 10 rebounds. Vanderstelt knocked down two threes and tallied two blocks, extending her single-season block record to 68.
Alyse Baughman contributed nine points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Jackie Brine and
Sophia Moir added five points each to the Hornets' final score.
The Hornets conclude their season with a 9-16 overall and a 4-12 mark in MIAA Conference play.
