FORT WANE, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team was defeated 21-9 in the Hornets' season opener at Indiana Tech on Saturday.
Kalamazoo scored the first goal of the game but trailed 7-2 at the end of the first quarter. Indiana Tech led 10-4 at halftime.
Indiana Tech outshot Kalamazoo 40-19 and held a 34-26 advantage in ground balls. Kalamazoo gained 17 draw controls to Indiana Tech's 15.
Julia Kozal led Kalamazoo with three goals, one assist, four draw controls and three ground balls.
Sophie Hartl scored two goals with six draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Tessa Fuller scored two goals with an assist and four ground balls.
Ella Spooner added a goal with two assists.
Morgan Vasquez also scored for the Hornets.
Nalaie Maki also had six draw controls in the contest.
Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday, Feb. 22, at Ohio Northern.
