KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team defeated The University of Olivet 70-59 at home Saturday afternoon.
Kalamazoo led 13-12 after the first quarter and 35-27 at halftime. Olivet cut the deficit to four (49-45) late in the third before trailing 51-45 heading into the fourth. The Hornets used an 8-0 run in the third to pull ahead by 16 before ending with the 70-59 win.
Kalamazoo shot 34.2 percent from the field for the game compared to 30 percent by Olivet. The Hornets made 5-of-25 three-pointers compared to 5-of-21 by Olivet. The Comets sank 18-of-23 free throws compared to 15-of-25 by Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo outrebounded Olivet 59-37 including 22-8 on the offensive end, resulting in a 19-5 advantage in second chance points.
Ruby Hogan led Kalamazoo with a career-high 25 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Lauren Vanderstelt also had a career-high with 23 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots.
Josee Cooke added seven points with four rebounds.
Alyse Baughman had five points with four rebounds and three assists.
Jackie Brines and
Taylor Dinda each grabbed seven rebounds.
Kalamazoo returns to action next Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Albion.
