CHICAGO - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost at Illinois Tech Saturday, 91-83.
Illinois Tech took a 46-36 lead at halftime built from beyond the three-point line, as the Scarlet Hawks shot 7-for-18 from beyond the arc in the first half compared to 2-for-10 by Kalamazoo.
The Hornets started hot in the second half, using a 21-5 run to grab a 59-54 lead, but Illinois Tech responded with a 22-4 run of its own to surge ahead 78-65 with seven minutes left. Kalamazoo was able to cut into the deficit in the closing minutes but the Scarlet Hawks held on for the win. The Hornets outshot Illinois Tech at 52.3% to 49.1% from the field, but the Scarlet Hawks were 43.3% from three-point range while Kalamazoo finished at 21.1% from deep.
Six different Hornets scored in double digits, led by Carter Bandemer with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks for his first career double-double. Nelson Sompa and Gavin Van Kampen both scored 14 points, with Sompa adding four assists while Van Kampen had four rebounds and two steals.
Lucas Hanifan, Patrick Perez and Connor Kouki all contributed 10 points. Hanifan added four rebounds and three steals.
Kalamazoo men's basketball (3-6) is off for the next two weeks, returning to the court Monday, Dec. 29 at Oberlin College (5-5).
