KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team won in overtime against Earlham College Saturday at Anderson Athletic Center, 73-68.
The Hornets used a 10-0 run to take a 20-15 lead midway through the first half, but Earlham recovered to lead 34-29 at halftime. The Quakers shot 48.3% in the opening period, and 36.3% for three. Kalamazoo shot 37.0% from the field and 30.8% from deep.
Earlham pushed the lead to 11 early in the second half, but the Hornets used a 13-4 run to draw to within two at 48-46. In the final five minutes of regulation, neither side led by more than four points before being tied at 67 for the last minute.
Kalamazoo prevented the Quakers from making a single field goal in overtime to take the victory. The Hornets finished shooting 40.3% from the field and 26.9% for three compared to 36.5% from the field and 33.3% from deep for Earlham.
Dougie Blackwood led Kalamazoo with 19 points in the game along with one steal and one block. Patrick Perez added nine points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Leading the Hornets in rebounds was Gavin Van Kampen with nine, adding four points, one steal and one block. Nelson Sompa had a game-high five assists to go along with his eight points.
The Hornets (2-4) take a break before returning to the court on Saturday, Dec. 6 at #11 University of Chicago (3-1) at 3 p.m. (2 p.m. CT).
