KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team won, 83-75, against Dominican (IL) Saturday at Anderson Athletic Center.
Kalamazoo started strong, building a 33-11 lead just past midway through the first half, and led 40-29 at the break. The Hornets shot 44.1% from the field in the first half and 33.3% from three-point range compared to 37.9% from the field and 16.7% from deep for Dominican.
The Stars continued fighting back in the second half, narrowing the deficit to two at 46-44 with 14 minutes remaining before a 23-6 Kalamazoo run built the lead back up to 69-50. Dominican heated up from beyond the arc down the stretch, making five of its last six three-point shots, but the Hornets held on for the win.
Carter Bandemer led all scorers with 21 points, reaching the 20-point mark for the third time in his career. Patrick Perez was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field to finish with 15 points and seven rebounds.Â
JJ Stevens led Kalamazoo with nine rebounds along with nine points, while Zander Nash added six points, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Nelson Sompa led all players with six assists, adding four points and two steals.
The Hornets (1-2) finish the weekend hosting Colorado College (1-1) on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Anderson Athletic Center.
