ALMA, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team defeated Alma, 3-0, Tuesday in the MIAA opener for both teams. With the win, the Hornets' record improves to 3-6-1 (1-0 MIAA), while the Scots fell to 6-5-1 (0-1 MIAA).
After a scoreless first half, Henry Plumstead scored off a corner kick in the 61st minute to give Kalamazoo the lead. Elijah Vue earned the assist on the game's opening score.
Lucas Ruiz added insurance with a penalty kick goal in the 77th minute. Plumstead added his second goal of the match on a penalty kick in the 87th minute.
Alma finished with more shots, 17-14, but Kalamazoo earned more shots on goal, 10-4, and had 14 corners to 11 for the Scots. Jackson Janderwski stopped all four shots on goal for his third shutout of the season.
The Hornets return home Saturday to face Adrian at 7 p.m. at MacKenzie Field.
